FAQ

What is the difference between your new & original bottles?

The new improved bottles with the red circle on the front are even more effective and in time will be the only bottles we sell – they contain a powerful new repellent which means that incognito now repels as well as camouflages. You will be relieved to hear that despite this major difference, incognito is still 100% natural and is still kind to our planet.
The new formulation has a different aroma from the original formula, its less citrusy and more earthy, which is still a lot better than any synthetic insect repellent. Although its not Channel!

Why did you change the design?

After listening to you, are customers, retailers, Dragons and distributors -many of them fed back to us the need for our bottle to reflect what we do. So now we are very proud to have a fantastic new design which took us 6 months to perfect and fully displays what the product does; keeps away insects.

How much incognito do I need?

Generally, one 100 ml bottle of incognito anti-insect spray lasts one adult one week when there are many mosquitoes and or other insects around. The loofah soaps last from 3 to 6 months. The other soaps last at least a month. Each bottle of moisturiser lasts 2-3 weeks and the incognito shampoo (which is also a conditioner and shower gel) lasts 6-8 weeks. All estimates are with frequent use. NB The spray will last longer when used in combination with the other products.

Why do mosquitoes bite us?

Blood is a requirement for their egg reproduction, they can only synthesise a particular protein from human blood, which is why only female mozzies bite us.

Is incognito organic?

Yes, we have full organic certification from Ecocert for the Java citronella and even the alcohol is made from organic grain.

Should you use incognito during the day?

The Dengue and Yellow Fever carrying mosquito Aedes aegypti is active during the day so yes, definitely apply incognito to protect yourself!

Is incognito safe for children?

Provided a patch test is done and there is no irritation, incognito is perfectly safe for shielding young ones from a very early age. It can also be applied to their clothes, cot, prams and surrounding area.

How frequently do I apply incognito?

Because everybody’s body chemistry is different, the frequency of re-application is up to you. Personally, I’d rather have too much on rather than too little. Unlike neurotoxin repellents, incognito is non-toxic so it can be used as often as you like. Always apply before going out and reapply after swimming.

Is DEET really that dangerous?

Yes! People have been documented as dying from using DEET (chemical name N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide, former nomenclature N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide-), mainly children. Although DEET deaths are rare the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has documented many cases of DEET users experiencing fainting, nausea, vomiting, headaches and seizures! Only use DEET as a last resort and if this is the case, a 50% concentration will suffice as there is no added benefit to higher concentrations; just increased risk of an adverse reaction. DEET ‘melts’ plastics and synthetic fibres and it is not good for your skin. Indeed, there are numerous instances of skin scarring when using this neuro toxin especially for women and children over prolonged periods.

DEET should NEVER be used on children as their DNA is more susceptible to mutation whilst growing and their skin is much more sensitive.

Our founder believes that many holidaymakers mistakenly attribute DEET poisoning symptoms for those of food poisoning! His reasoning being that this chemical repellent is toxic to aquatic wildlife and this is one possible route into the human food chain.

Pets

It is fine to use all incognito products on pets: horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, llamas, etc. to ward off mosquitoes, bugs and Ticks. Thousands of people already do so.

How big is each bottle of incognito?

Each bottle contains a generous 100ml and is approximately 15.5cm high and 4cm in diameter.

Why is the bottle black?

incognito is in a stylish yet very functional black bottle. The black bottle also has a practical purpose as it prevents UV light from breaking down the potent molecules inside. The bottle is also recyclable.

Could the bottle leak?

The thread from the bottle neck can come loose in transit so a firm twist is advisable – especially if you plan to take it in a pressurised environment like a jet plane. To be on the safe side it it is advisable to wrap it in a carrier bag when flying.

How long does it last?

It has a shelf life of at least 3 years and can be stored for at least another 3 months after the Best Before date i.e. a batch of BB 10/10/2010 will be effective until at least the beginning of 2011.

Why is incognito dissolved in alcohol?

Citronella does not dissolve easily in water. Furthermore, incognito is applied a lot more effectually to the skin, as the alcohol evaporates instantly. A cool feeling!

Do you trade fairly?

Yes we trade fairly with everyone. We commission small co-operatives and family businesses to manufacture incognito and our other products. We do not believe in dictating to them what they must do with the fair price we pay them. However, we do encourage and reward best environmental practices. We are committed to working in a spirit of cooperation.

Why an Impregnated mosquito net?

If a mosquito net is not impregnated with a contact insecticide, mosquitoes can land on it and penetrate it with their proboscis. In areas with high risk of malaria (tropical Africa, the Amazon, parks of south-east Asia) this is even more of a risk. The WHO recommends the use of a long lasting impregnated mosquito net for those areas. The contact insecticide used on Care Plus mosquito nets kills flies and other pests, but is harmless to humans. This means the net provides extra safety during a good nights sleep.

Durallin Impregnation

Our mosquito nets are impregnated with long lasting Durallin technology that applies the insecticide to the material of nets. Durallin can be used without risks for humans but it’s deadly for insects and other arthropods. The technology makes use of  minimum impregnation. Mosquito nets impregnated with Durallin contain minimum quantities of Solvento. In this respect, Durallin combines effectiveness and durability.
Durallin Impregnated mosquito nets remain effectiveness from 3 year (indoors) to 1 year (outdoors) the impregnation can withstand at least 20 washes (max 30 °C Chlorine free detergent). Store the net in it’s closed case in order to ensure maximum effectiveness.
